On this, the 23rd Sunday in Ordinary Time, the Holy Scripture puts before us the frailty of the human condition, and the call to follow Christ without reservation.
Humility is the main theme of this week’s Sunday readings. The passage from the Book of Sirach reminds us that whatever we do, whatever activity we engage in, we need to do it in humility.
On this 20th Sunday in Ordinary Time, we are presented with texts about division. The prophet Jeremiah is thrown into an empty cistern, and he literally sinks into the mud.
In our Gospel reading, we have heard of the soul. Let us spend a few moments on discovering what the soul is. I will also have a few more thoughts on prayer.
As we meditate upon the Liturgy of the Word for this 17th Sunday of Ordinary Time, let us continue our reflections on prayer. In our first reading, from the book of Genesis, the same mysterious three visitors who promised Abraham and Sarah a son, are now drawing near to Sodom.
On this, the 16th Sunday of Ordinary Time, Sacred Scripture presents to us Abraham’s welcome to the three mysterious visitors. We also see how Martha and Mary welcomed Christ into their home.
