Welcome to Saint Hedwig's online where you can access a dimension of the spiritual and corporal Body of Christ that is our Roman Catholic community. Located in Barry's Bay and area, in the heart of the Madawaska Valley, Ontario, we are proud of our rich cultural heritage -- Kashub, Polish, Irish, French-Canadian, Native, and a colourful sprinkling of other backgrounds from the human family. Here, it is our baptismal sharing in the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that brings us together as families, a family of faith, to worship and transmit a knowledge of the Living God who is Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Pope's General Intention: That Catholic Universities may more and more be places where, in the light of the Gospel, it is possible to experience the harmonious unity existing between faith and reason. 
Saint Hedwig Church serves as the "campus church" for Our Lady Seat of Wisdom Academy -- a fresh, magesterially faithful, Catholic College that draws on the rich inheretance of classical liberal arts in the formation of its students. With the support of our devoted parishoners, the complexities of utlizing the church's facilities for OLSWA's main kitchen and adjunct classrooms, are made possible.
Gifts appropriate for all sacramental celebrations such as baptism, first Holy Communion, confirmation and marriage are available as well as catechetical material and Holy Bibles.

The King’s Authority

Mark 1:21-28Last week, Jesus announced the kingdom of God is at hand. This week, in mighty words and deeds, He exercises His dominion - asserting royal authority over the ruler of this world, Satan (see John 12:31).
Notice that today’s events take place on the sabbath. The sabbath was to be an everlasting sign -both of God’s covenant love for His creation (see Exodus 20:8-11; 31:12-17), and His deliverance of his covenant people, Israel, from slavery (see Deuteronomy 6:12-15).
On this sabbath, Jesus signals a new creation - that the Holy One has come to purify His people and deliver the world...

St. Angela MericiAngela Merici, foundress of the Ursuline Sisters, was born in the small Italian town of Desenzano on the shore of Lake Garda in 1474. As a young girl, Angela lost in succession her sister and both of her parents. She went to live with a wealthy uncle in the town of Salo where, without benefit of formal schooling, Angela grew in poise, wisdom, and grace. The age in which Angela lived and worked (the 16th Century), was a time which saw great suffering on the part of the poor in society. Injustices were carried on in the name of the government and the Church, which left many people both spiritually and materially powerless and hungry. The corruption of moral values left families split and hurting. Wars among nations and the Italian city-states left towns in ruins. In 1516, Angela came to live in the town of Brescia, Italy. Here she became a friend of the wealthy nobles of the day and a servant of the poor and suffering. Angela spent her days in prayer and fasting and service. Her reputation spread and her advice was sought by both young and old, rich and poor, religious and secular, male and female. But still, Angela had not yet brought her vision to fruition. After visiting the Holy Land, where she reportedly lost her sight, Angela returned to Brescia, which had become a haven for refugees from the many wars then wracking Italy. There she gathered around her a group of women who looked toward Angela as an inspirational leader and as a model of apostolic charity. It was these women, many of them daughters of the wealthy, some orphans themselves, who formed the nucleus of Angela's Company of St. Ursula.
