The Gospel gives us two prayers: that of the tax collector and that of the Pharisee. Only one prayer is answered. Let us see what we can learn from the mistakes of the Pharisee, so that our petitions may be heard.

In the Gospel that we have just heard, Our Lord heals ten lepers. Leprosy was a terrible disease in the ancient world – no cure was known.
Our Gospel for this, the 27th Sunday of Ordinary Time, begins with a dramatic request: the Apostles say to the Lord, “Increase our faith”. I would like to spend some time with you today on this precious gift of faith.
On this, the 25th Sunday of Ordinary Time, I would like to spend some time with you on the parable of the dishonest steward, and on St. Paul’s request to pray for those who are in high authority.
The Gospel that we have just heard contains three parables about God’s mercy: the lost sheep, the lost coin, and the lost son, which is commonly known as the parable of the Prodigal Son.
